NWS. PEACE PROGRAM, a non-profit CSIET approved program is seeking caring families in the area to host a high school students from Ecuador, Brazil, Austria Colombia, Korea and various other countries for the 2010 school year.  The students range from 15-18 years of age and will be arriving in January to spend the upcoming 5-10 months with a caring family while attending your local high school.  There is NO such thing as a typical host family!  Whether you are a single parent, retired, have small children, teens, or no children, you can have a great experience hosting an international teen!   All these Students require is a bed, meals and a caring family to share their 5-10 month stay in our country!  Call NWS PEACE PROGRAM at 866-846-3977 or visit their website at www.nw-services.com for more information!

 

                                                     Ottumwa Community Schools

Ottumwa-Douma Elementary school will be caroling at two Ottumwa care centers on Thursday, December 10. At 6 p.m., carolers will board a bus at Douma and visit Ridgewood Care Center and Good Samaritan Center. Students and their families will tour the Holiday Nights N’ Lights display in Greater Ottumwa Park after singing carols. The bus will return to Douma at approximately 8:15 p.m. Cost to participate is $2. RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE PRIOR TO December 4th by calling the school office.

 

Ottumwa- Ottumwa High School will host their annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 13th at 2pm in the OHS auditorium. The concert will feature vocal and symphony orchestra students.The orchestra will perform “Twas The Night Before Christmas” with narration by Principal Steve Hanson. Other selections will include “March of the Nutcracker” and “Waltz of the flowers.” The orchestra is under the direction of Patty Babb. Students from several vocal groups, including Preludes, Troubadours, Bells, and Meistersingers, will perform. Selections will include, “Where are You Christmas”, “Glad Noel”, “I’ll be Home For Christmas”, “Gloria”, and “O Come, O Come Emanuel”. The concert will conclude with the Meistersingers and the symphony orchestra performing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” All OHS alumni are invited to join the groups on stage to sing as well. The vocal groups are directed by Dennis Vasconez.

 

Ottumwa- The Ottumwa Community School District will release classes for all students at 2pm on Tuesday, December 22 for the Christmas holiday. No classes will be held through January3. The districts elementary youth care program will extend their hours that day form 2pm until 6pm and will be open all day Wednesday. They are closed during the Christmas holiday break.

Ottumwa- The Ottumwa high School fruit and cheese fundraiser will be delivered on Friday, December 11. The delivery was postponed due to the weather and school cancellations. Orders will be ready for pickup after 10 am. OHS asks that persons with orders make arrangements for pickup.

Masonic Temple- Free to everyone!, Christmas Dinner be their Christmas dinner Guests the Masonic organizations of Ottumwa cordially invite you to spend Christmas day with them at the Masonic temple, 611 East Pennsylvania. Attention any persons who can ring a bell, The Salvation Army are still in need of bell ringers for the holidays. If you would like to give it a shot just call 641-682-7597 and they’ll set you up.

 

The Wapello county Historical Museum, Lincoln Exhibit scheduled for December the 8th, 9th & 10th will be rescheduled after the holidays do to weather.
